Evidence to Improve Care

Low Back Pain

A quality standard currently in development

This quality standard focuses on care for people who are 18 years of age and older and have persistent or recurrent low back pain, defined as mechanical back pain.

Although it will apply to care in all settings, the quality standard will focus on primary care and community-based care. This quality standard will include the assessment, diagnosis and management (including pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions). As well, it will include referral for consideration for surgery and referral for non-surgical specialty consultation, but will exclude surgical procedures (e.g. disc replacement for low back pain, discectomy, laminectomy, or fusion).

The work on this quality standard started in May 2017.

Virtual Town Hall: November 2017

Public feedback phase: May 2018
