Evidence to Improve Care

Opioid Prescribing for Chronic Pain

This quality standard addresses care for people 15 years of age and older with chronic pain who have been prescribed or are considering opioids. It applies to all care settings. It does not address opioid prescribing for acute pain or end-of-life care, or address opioid use disorder.

In addition to this quality standard, Health Quality Ontario has developed two other quality standards related to opioids: Opioid Prescribing for Acute Pain and Opioid Use Disorder (Opioid Addiction).

Thank you for your comments and feedback. The consultation period has now ended.

The two guides below are in draft form. Please check back here in a few months for the finalized guides and for a variety of other resources related to this standard.

Even before finalized, you may also wish to use these draft standards to support your care.
