Patient Experience: Measuring what matters

Patient experiences are a rich source of information about the performance of our health system. Measuring patient experience allows us to better understand patients’ needs and preferences, and helps to strengthen patient-centred care in Ontario.

Improving patient experience is a key health system priority. However, Ontario is challenged by a lack of consistent, comprehensive and useful information about the experiences of patients. By understanding where patient experiences are not optimal, we can begin to address gaps and ultimately improve experiences for all Ontarians.

Working with partners across the health care system, Health Quality Ontario, in partnership with the Local Health Integration Networks, has developed the Patient Experience Measurement Strategy that includes key recommendations for improving patient experience measurement.
